The Sunset Season

Image

While summer is winding down all over the northern hemisphere, we’ve entered another season here in Yellowknife, which is that of the fabulous sunset.  This is the time of year where it is dark again in the evenings, and hence the return of the northern lights and sunsets.  As one long time Yellowknifer pointed out to me recently, the long and fantastic sunsets here make sunsets  south pale in comparison.  It helps of course that the sun sets slowly, they seem to last for an hour at least.  I may to have taken a hundred photos of beautiful sunsets over the last year, but there were two spectacular evenings this week that had me running for the camera once again.   I thought they were so fantastic that I couldn’t resist sharing them with you.

Fantastic, know how beautiful there were when we were there but this seems to have topped them all. Wish we were there to enjoy the Northern Lights. Thanks for sharing the pictures and enjoy every moment of it.

    Hi Tandi,
What fabulous pictures! I would love to try to paint one of them. Is it OK with you to use your photos as source material? I am surprised at the length of time the sunset takes- as opposed to the fabulous sunsets in Mexico that disappear very quickly! keep the pictures coming!!
    Love, Gail

      Hi Gail

Of course, I’d be more than happy for you to try to paint from one of these. If you want me to send you one in high resolution, let me know. The photos look much better in real life than on the blog.

    Amazing for sure!

So beautiful! And how lovely that they are long and leisurely. In a way, they’re like the northern lights, ever-changing and unpredictable. I hope you have many more!

This blog is such a wonderful treat. Your way of describing the life up there, the beauty, the challenges. I am so inspired by it. I haven’t written to you to tell you how much I am enjoying it. I have told so many people about the tidbits I get from your stories. Both Georgia and I read them together. I would so love to come up to see it all but alas it isn’t in my short term future anyway.

Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to get a sense of the world up there. You capture it so well.

      Dear Claire,

Thanks for reading and thanks for your great comment. It’s really fun to hear what others think, and fantastic to hear from you. It would be wonderful to share it in person too – let’s hope that we get that chance some day!

      XO
